Spring and fall storms in the Mid-South bring straight-line wind, hail, and falling limbs. When one hits your home, what you do in the first couple of days can make a big difference in how smoothly the insurance claim goes.
Start with safety. If a tree is on the roof or wires are down, stay out of that part of the house and call the utility. Once it's safe, stop more water from getting in. A tarp over an open roof or a bucket under a ceiling leak is reasonable mitigation, and most policies expect you to take it.
Next, document everything before anything is cleaned up. Take wide photos of each side of the house, then close-ups of missing shingles, dented gutters, cracked siding, and water stains inside. Photograph the date on your phone screen or keep the original files so the timestamps are clear.
Then get a contractor inspection before or alongside the adjuster visit. A roofer will see damage that's hard to spot from the ground: bruised shingles, lifted tabs, and cracked flashing. We take dated photos, write a line-item estimate, and meet the adjuster on site so nothing gets missed.
